Saru is a self-described Black, Pan-African, decolonial feminist and among Zimbabwe’s leading lawyers. A partner at law firm, Honey & Blanckenberg, her focus is on litigation around women’s rights, and also specialises in labour law. Saru argued the landmark matter in which the Supreme Court of Zimbabwe held that a married woman can apply for her child’s passport without the approval of her husband. She has also helped unmarried mothers obtain declaratory relief to confirm that they are their children’s guardians as well as helping married women who do not want to change their surnames to those of their husbands. She is a member of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights and Zimbabwe Women Lawyers Association. She received the Human Rights Lawyer of the year award in 2010, and was the moderator of the Gender, Decolonisation and Intellectual Property session during the third Kwame Nkrumah Pan-African Intellectual and Cultural Festival: Pan-Africanism, Feminism and the Next Generation held in 2021.
