South Feminist Futures is in El Salvador at the 15º EFLAC El Salvador – Encuentro Feminista Latinoamericano y del Caribe /  Latin American and Caribbean Feminist Encuentros (15EFLAC) taking place from 22 – 25 November.

We are using the opportunity of this gathering of thousands of women from Latin America and the Caribbean to begin our consultations for the development of the South Feminist Manifesto. We expect the 23 November consultations and follow-up networking to inform and raise awareness on why we need a South Feminist Manifesto and how we will build it together.

In this moment, we are confronted with the Palestinian struggle against racism, imperialism, and settler colonialism, the rise of fascism demonstrated by the far right’s recent election win in Argentina, and unrelenting climate colonialism and extractivism.

Now is the moment to build our collective spaces to reclaim South-South internationalism and build solidarity to come up with solutions for a feminist future. This inaugural South Feminist Manifesto consultation at 15º EFLAC El Salvador will provide rich insights on our priority shared concerns and provide a roadmap for the other regional consultations to come.

Our participation at EFLAC also provides SFF an opportunity to engage and build links with feminist groups and individuals and add our voices to discussions that are part of 15º EFLAC’s agenda. EFLAC’s broad agenda feeds directly into the building of a South Feminist Manifesto. The Encuentros were conceived as a way for feminists to share their diverse perspectives and create alternative strategies to confronting hegemonies. From 200 participants at the first EFLAC in Bogotá, Colombia in 1981, the Encuentros have grown to a gathering of over 1500 feminists today.
