“What is Transfeminism?” is the seventh session in South Feminist Future’s Political Education series. This series is an initiative by South Feminist Futures that seeks to strengthen cross-regional, intergenerational dialogue as well as build cross-regional feminist constituency. The series cuts through various topics with the objective of interrogating and strengthening understandings of issues shaping conditions in the Global South.

This session took place on the 28th of June and was taught by transfeminist Hailey Kaas. In this video, Hailey unpacks the concept of transfeminism and discusses the experiences of trans women in Brazil.

Hailey Kaas is a Latina transfeminist born in São Paulo, Brazil. Writer and translator, she was responsible for introducing Transfeminism in Brazil through one of the first Brazilian Transfeminism website called Transfeminismo. She is currently a graduate student in Anthropology at FESP-SP and taking part in multiple initiatives to spread Transfeminism in Brazil.
